Mars continues to wander the length of Scorpius. Have a look at a nice wide-field view of his
progress here.
July 5&6 2001 (posted July 19)
Another July eclipse recorded by Parramatta High. This one was only a partial
eclipse, but it did provide a nice indication of the shape of the Earth.
NOTE: This is the new re-scanned, clearer version of these photos.
The 40-Year Reunion Committee is running at full steam. The festivities are planned, and you can view the
online brochure here.

Dymphna Cusack, noted Australian authoress, served a sojourn teaching English
at Parramatta High in the 30's.
Morning Sacrifice, her play about the petty politics of a high school staffroom, is
playing in Sydney now. We wonder how much of this play is based on memories of PHS...?

As Mars reaches opposition (more on that later) there is concern expressed about our 99-year lease.

This web site now has a mirror at

the Department of Education and Training server. You may like to try out the connection in the unlikely event that
faxmentis.nsw.edu.au slows down...

Pleurotus Nidiformis, the "Ghost Fungus", makes a welcome return to Parramatta High.
See it glow in the dark here.
April 7 2001
One of the first "features" of this website was a series of maps and images (at ever-increasing scales) which
was intended to answer the question: "Where is Parramatta High School?"
Five years later they have been updated, incorporating recent satellite images
from NASA.
April 4 2001
PHS students organised a Mufti Day to raise funds for the women of East Timor.
Mrs Shirley Purser - International Womens' Day Chair - accepted the school's contribution from our school captain -
as reported in the Parramatta Advertiser of 4/4/01.

Same edition - different page. Parramatta Leagues Club, Parramatta Eels and Parramatta High School get
together to support Parramatta Red Cross. Read about it here.

It was reported that the Russian space station MIR burnt over the Pacific, and splashed down east of New Zealand.
On this auspicious day, we can now report that it actually crashed much closer to home than that.
Click here to discover MIR's true final resting place.
Parramatta High School is participating in the Resourceful Adolescent Project (RAP), initiated
by Griffith University. You can read more about this project on our welfare page.

As usual, Parramatta High School is right at the forefront of high technology.
Project Starshine is an educational project, based in the U.S., through which
students all around the world polish mirrors which will be attached to a satellite which will be
placed in low earth orbit.
Starshine 1 has been finished, launched and returned (in a fiery fashion) to earth.
Starshine 2 has finished the polishing phase, and is being assembled for launch.
Starshine 3 is currently having its mirrors polished by school students throughout the world. Parramatta
High School is doing its bit, of course. Read about it here, and see
plenty of photos of the polishing process.

Last weeks' Parramatta Advertiser (7/3/01) ran two pieces of interest to Parramatta High.
One was a paid promotional piece for the school, just prior to this week's
Public Education displays.
March 9 2001
A reunion is currently being organised for those who sat for the Leaving Certificate in 1961
or those who were in that group's classes at any time between '57 and '61.
More details are on the ex-student's page.

constellation of Scorpius here

One of the brightest new "stars" in our summertime twilight sky is the International Space Station (ISS)
- seen here above Sydney skies just four days into the new century.
Our PHS image isn't quite as detailed...

(Finally!) Welcome to the third millennium.
