In 1821 the Reverend John Platts published The Literary and Scientific Class Book, embracing "the LEADING FACTS and PRINCIPLES of SCIENCE."
On 12/11/1825 (the 50th year of independence of the USA) a version of that text, selected by Levi W.Leonard was "adapted to the wants and condition of youth in the United States."

The last total lunar eclipse of the millennium was a spectacular sight over Parramatta. Over the course of nearly four hours last Sunday night (16/7/00) the moon moved into the shadow of the earth and turned a deep blood-red. You can view the progress of the eclipse as seen over Parramatta here. The animation of the eclipse has been updated (22/7/00) to better reflect the southern hemisphere view.
