The greater Sydney region. Click to show Paramatta Parramatta was founded on 2 November 1788, just ten months after European settlement at Sydney Cove. The purpose of the settlement was to feed the Sydney colony. Wheat, barley and maize were first harvested in December 1789.

The rail service commenced in 1855 and signalled the beginning of Parramatta's industrial development.

The Great Western Highway, the main thoroughfare from Sydney to the west (and also our address), is shown in blue.
