Another Lunar Eclipse over Parramatta
— December 10-11 2011 —

A magnificent total lunar eclipse - maddeningly interrupted by cloud.

The full moon shows no sign of the penumbral shadow - even though it is certainly on the moon by now

The penumbral shadow creeps onto the lower right-hand side of the moon

The umbral shadow covers half of the moon - and the clouds do their best to cover the whole view... :-(

Just before totality the moon glows a beautiful deep, ruddy hue. Photo exposure is long enough to show a star.

Coming out of totality the umbral shadow can be seen to be retreating.
