Here we see Antares ("Anti-Ares" - the rival of Mars)- the red giant at the centre of Scorpius. Antares is flanked by two stars which share the name Al Niyat - the arteries of the scorpion.

The greenish colour of Antares here is (again) due to the poor colour correction of the 400mm telephoto lens used to photograph it. Antares actually blazes red.

Also visible is Messier object 4, M4. M4 is one of the nearest globular clusters in the sky. According to recent data its distance from us is perhaps only about 7,000 light years.
