Benaud, R., (b.1930) attended Parramatta High during the turbulent years of (and
immediately following) WWII. From a cricketing family, his skill with the bat and ball
quickly dominated the sports pages of the newly-resurrected "Phœnix".
The first issue of "Phœnix", October 1944, carried the following piece:
Bear in mind Richie would have been 13 or 14 years old when playing here in the school's
first XI.
Of particular interest is Richie's own piece in the same "Phœnix",
which outlines his personal instructions for playing the game...
The following year, (1945), the young all-rounder had made his mark:
