The Leaving Certificate Class of 1949

In October 2005, the students of the Leaving Certificate Classes of 1949 had a dinner to mark the 50th anniversary of the year they started school.

These students grew up in the shadow of World War II and the shortages of post-war Australia.

It was also an opportunity to thank them for their sponsorship of the Sheridan Memorial Prize for First in Modern History. This prize was first awarded to Goodwin Packer in 1945. Goodwin went on to become a much-loved teacher and subject master at the school.

A special thank you to Bobbie Matheson 1949 Girl School Captain who has donated a silver cake tray for our display. It was awarded to Bobbie for Senior Champion and School Champion - Swimming 1949. The school recently uncovered the remains of a silver tea and coffee set donated by the fourth and fifth year classes in the late 1950s. These will be exhibited in the new display cabinet located in the front foyer.
