Wartime Correspondence - 1916

Reg Mottershead, 1915 joint honorary School Captain of PHS, sent this postcard to Miss Mott, English teacher and editress of the school magazine, whilst he was still on active duty. It is dated 26th of March, 1916.

R.M.'s 1916 postcard - text The spartan format of the regulation "Field Service Postcard" certainly didn't encourage a full and frank exchange of emotional greetings!

One wonders what special codes and symbols (in the signature, maybe) were devised to circumvent this extraordinary wartime censorship.

R.M. was wounded in action
- "buried by shellfire and incapacitated" -
on October 26 1916.
