No editions were published between 1936 and 1944.
In 1944 the magazine was reborn as "Phœnix". It has been published under that name every year from 1944 until the most recent edition in 1999. As a homage to the earlier volumes, the 1999 edition of Phœnix was produced in the same small format and general typestyle as the 1916-1931 editions.
The PHS Heritage Committee maintains a complete collection of all of these historically significant volumes.
Below is a key to some of the first images printed in our school magazine...

The very first photo to appear in our magazine was an
advertisement for a builder. £348.00 for this bungalow, erected and painted, £235.00 for the materials only... Vol.1 - No.1 - June 1916 - page 11 (48k) |
| The above advertisement appeared in later editions, as did others for bakers, piano-makers and so forth. These ads will be reproduced later. Below are images specific to PHS. |

|
Not really an image, this is a 5-piece scanned reproduction of the
first written history of the school, as it
appeared in the December 1916 School Magazine. Vol.1 - No.2 - December 1916 - pps 4&5 (5 x 25k) |
|
As was appropriate at the time, the earlier editions of the Magazine
were printed by the "letterpress" process.
Here is evidence of that fact. Vol.1 - No.4 - December 1917 (27k) |
|
The first students to have their photos appear in the magazine were the
1917 Intermediate Certificate top-place-getters
, Muriel Gain and Wilfred Greenfield. Vol.1 - No.5 - June 1918 (20k) |
|
Photos were few and far between in the early editions. In 1921 the two school captains made an appearance. Vol.2 - No.2 - December 1921 (10k) |
|
In the same edition the first group photo appeared. It was the PHS CHS representatives for 1921. You can read their names in the caption. Vol.2 - No.2 - December 1921 (31k) |
|
The upper photo of this pair appears
elsewhere in our
historical photos archive. This is how it was presented in the 1923 magazine. Vol.2 - No.4 - May 1923 (30k) |

Phyllis Jackson attended Parramatta High School from 1924 to 1928 and her various achievements were recorded in the school magazines.
