Comet McNaught - (C/2006 P1)
— January 18 2007 —

Viewing from a new location atop Carlingford Court shopping centre, the comet was magnificent.
The tail extended at least 2° - probably more.

The apparent motion of the comet caused a "lengthening" of the comet's core in these 1.5 second exposures; that is, the core looks "egg-shaped" - 'though it wasn't.

The animation shows four frames taken about 5-10 seconds apart.

This wider-angle four-second shot shows the appearance of the comet to the naked eye, and gives an indication of the magnificent sweep of the tail (and the strength of the wind moving the trees!)
