The Macquarie and Jubilee Halls
Macquarie Hall then

With permission to start the high school finally granted by the Department of Public Instruction (as the Department of Education & Training was known then) accommodation had to be found.

The Macquarie and Jubilee halls (located in Macquarie Street, Parramatta) were rented from the Methodist Church for the purpose. Macquarie Hall was constructed in the late 1850s. In 1871, the foundation of a schoolhouse was laid to commemmorate the Jubilee of Methodism in Parramatta. The Jubilee Hall was opened on 21 June, 1885.

Macquarie Hall is the building second from the right in the picture above. The Jubilee Hall is not visible, being located behind the Macquarie Hall. Between the church and the hall is the parsonage Leigh House, occupied during the late 1920s by the Reverend Putland whose daughters Winifred and Jean attended Parramatta High School.

The school moved into its own building in 1915.

The Macquarie Hall, Jubilee Hall and the parsonage were demolished in the 1950s to make way for unattractive shops and offices. The church spire was removed in 1920s for safety reasons and has never been replaced.
