In 1913 the school was operating from the Jubilee and Macquarie Halls in Macquarie Street, Parramatta.
In the following year, construction began on the main building.

This photograph shows the laying of the foundation stone on the 3rd of April 1914.

The builder was Richard Jefferay (standing to the right of the foundation stone with his back to the camera),who was also responsible for the construction of Burnside Public School and the Civic Theatre in Parramatta.
Jefferay contracted double pneumonia whilst on a job in Manly and died at the age of 34. Our thanks to his grandaughter, Mrs Daphne Bradford - a former PHS student who donated this image to the school archives.
