The PHS Heritage Room

Uniforms and display case

The Heritage Room was established in 2000 and has been developed to display and house our growing collection of memorabilia and photographs.

Students from the LC1950 have supported the school in the development of the Heritage Room donating resources, funds and time. Peter Dunn from that group has orchestrated much of the work and was instrumental in having the room ready for inspection at the Friends of PHS Morning Tea in March 2001. Ken Blundell made the sign to hang above the door.

Shields and photographs

Many students have contributed interesting memorabilia - from school badges, blazers, certificates, exam papers, programmes from speech nights, musical and drama performances.

This is an ever growing collection of photographs as well as class and school registers and school magazines. An Ex-Students Library is being established and we are collecting works written by former students.

Pennants and magazines

Pennants, trophies and shields adorn the walls. Old science laboratory equipment rescued from the class rooms, the old school bell and some copies of school magazines are displayed.

The book cupboard you see here was restored and presented to the school by the Leaving Certificate Classes of 1950 on the occassion of the official dedication of the Heritage/Archives Room on 1 June, 2005.

Old science equipment

The room is also used as an educational resource for junior history classes who marvel at school life as it was in years gone by.
