George Best had a literary input into each of the three editions of
the PHS school magazine that were produced while he was a student here.
(Production of the magazine ceased in 1935, until it was reborn as
"Phœnix" in 1944.)
Below is a copy of the poem he presented in 1933, while he was in class 1A.
Below the image is a brief explanation of two of the terms George used (at age 12!)
anapæst: n. a foot of three syllables,
two short followed by one long (quantitative metre) or two unstressed followed by one
stressed (accentual metre).
trochee: n. (in prosody) a metrical foot of two syllables,
a long followed by a short, or an accented followed by an unaccented.
Remember, George was in first class (year 7)
when he wrote this.
