Flora also attends the Parramatta city Council Mock Youth Council meetings and sits on council's Youth Forum discussing the needs of young people in the Parramatta community. Flora is not our only Olympic connection. Another former PHS student to represent Australia was David McKenzie (LC1953) who competed in fencing at the 1956, 1960 and 1964 Olympics. David was a State and Australian champion in the men’s foil and went on, with Kevin Gosper, to become Australia’s IOC members. His tragic death in 1987 cut short a promising and valuable career in the Olympic movement. The AOC presented a number of David McKenzie Memorial Olympic Flags to local councils which were flown at Olympic venues. The DH McKenzie Memorial Tournament is held each year in Adelaide. |
