Parramatta High School Badge from 1913 to 2001 |

|
This is the badge that appeared on the
cover of the first school magazine - June 1916. It was designed in the school's
first year - 1913.
This detail from the 1916 badge |
| It should be noted that the original (1913) badge did not include the school motto in the scroll beneath the badge. This was included after the motto was adopted in late 1915. | |

At left is the badge - literally - the metal enamelled badge. This version of the badge - or one very similar to it - appeared as early as 1916. Detail, of course, must be compromised in a stamped and enamelled objet d'art. The earliest versions appeared without the motto or the scroll underneath the crest. |

The embroidered badge which appears on the senior tie has a more faithful rendition of
"two blues" theme, although the stitching does play havoc with the detail. The yellow colour was introduced as a consequence of copying the metal badge - yellow being the approximate colour of the base metal metal of the badge. |

The design of the badge remained essentially unchanged until the mid-fifties. The
cover of the 1955 School Magazine shows this simplified version.
This appears to be where the paddle-wheel steamer transmogrified into a sloop. Other versions in the fifties were too similar to note here. |

This slightly reworked version appeared in the early sixties. This remained, until recently, the "standard" badge which was routinely used on correspondence and other paperwork. |

Neither of the two "updated" versions shown above were sufficiently faithful to the
original in terms of proportion, balance or style. A few years ago, this "cleaned-up" copy of the original (shown at the top of the page) was produced to fill this obvious niche - on this website, among other places. But... |

...there were complications. The motto was almost illegible, and the outline (whilst the shape was O.K.) was a little too fine to reproduce well in a variety of media. Hence this version, with bolder lines and a larger, more legible and "attached" motto. This is now our "official" badge, for correspondence etc. |

Our "2000" badge translates well to fabric, as well. Here is an embroidered version, as it appeared on our new shirts. |
