Lest We Forget

Rosemary for Remembrance

Since 1916, Parramatta High School has remembered the service and sacrifice of Australian serviceman and women in war. A commemorative assembly is held in the school hall. This year, our special guest veteran was ex-student Air Commodore Stanley Clark DFC a veteran of the Vietnam War.

His speech may be read here.

For Australians, the Battle of Long Tan was one of the most significant in this conflict.

Members of the Student Representative Council travelled to the city to participate in the Schools Remember ANZAC Ceremony held at the ANZAC War Memorial in Hyde Park.

The First World War would make quite an impact on the school. Four members of staff and 35 students would serve in this conflict. They sent many letters to the school about their experiences and in return received care parcels prepared by the students - these always included a copy of the latest school magazine. Read more about that here.
Selwyn Kirwan, a student, wrote an Ode to the ANZACS which was published in the school magazine of June 1916. He would become part of that legend himself just a few years later.
In 2005, the school remembered those ex-students who had served in World War II with the dedication of an Honour Roll.

Many of our ex-students served with distinction in this conflict. You can read about some of them here.
Miss Campbell, the school's Heritage Officer, paid tribute to the fallen when she visited the Australian War Memorial in April 2005. Read about her visit here.
