What can I do if I am being bullied?

Here are some ideas that you might try…

  • Avoid students who bully
  • Don’t be alone with students who bully – it feels safer with others around
  • Walk calmly away from them
  • Don’t fight back – it will make things worse
  • Don’t keep it secret – get support from someone you trust (a friend, teacher, school official) It’s OK to tell
  • Talk calmly to the bully or bullies about what is happening and how it makes you feel
  • Forget about it by doing something you enjoy

How can I help someone who is being bullied?

You can make a difference for a friend who is being bullied…

  • Listen to someone who is being bullied and encourage that person to talk about what if feels like to be bullied
  • Support someone who is being bullied in the actions they take – tell a teacher or a school official
  • Support someone who is being bullied by clearly communicating to the bully or bullies that bullying and harassment are unacceptable – you may choose to do this as an individual or as part of a group

What will happen to bullies at Parramatta High School?

At Parramatta High School bullies can expect to…

  • Lose privileges – complete a detention, spend time in the SOS room, be withdrawn from the playground or perhaps be suspended
  • Make amends to the person who was bullied or harassed
  • Have their parents informed of the bullying incident
  • Spend time completing activities which develop positive behaviours – such as school beautification
  • Examine their own behaviour and develop a plan for eliminating their bullying behaviour
