The caption reads:

"WHEN LAUGHTER LOST THE RACE.-It was a novelty event at the Parramatta High School Union's sport meeting yesterday. The boy ran a distance in the sack, being assisted along by the girl. They then changed places, and the girl returned. It was a race in which laughter was a handicap. The harder the couples tried to help themselves, the more they became entangled. The swifter they ran the more often they tumbled. It was an event from which both contestants and onlookers derived amusement."
