Helen Hayes (nee Laws) tells us:
As I am sorting old photographs I am reminded of a day during the Canberra Parramatta visit in 1960. My mother had given her approval for me to invite my close friends and their Canberra billets to lunch as we lived on the walking route between Cumberland Oval and Glenquarrie Tennis Courts. Somehow the word got out that everyone was invited to drop in at 45 Brabyn Street for lunch. As I became aware that the numbers were swelling I ran ahead to warn mum and the swarm of students moved ever closer to my home. Some great planners decided to visit each shop along Victoria Road and purchase extra bread, butter and sandwich fillings. The girls swung straight into the kitchen and the sandwiches flowed. Over 100 enjoyed lunch under the weekly washing ....a far cry from the dozen mum had expected. Canberra Parramatta Visits were always a highlight in my senior years.
