The Invincibles

1946 first XI

Richie Benaud and his team mates reunited at the school to mark the 60th anniversary of the year they remained undefeated in the schools' cricket competition.

1946 First XI reunited

Keith Lego, Doug Milner, Warwick Dunn, Wilf Ewens, Harold Goodwin, Richie Benaud and Ken Kirkness lined up for a team photograph before attending the school assembly.

The reunion was an opportunity to remember the good times spent on the field and in the classroom.

Keith Lego addressing the assembly

Richie regaled the students with stories of his days at the school. In particular, the cameraderie of his team mates and the pride he felt in being a student of Parramatta High.

Keith Lego, Richie's team mate, spoke of his achievements on the field after he had left school and how proud they were of his successes. He entertained the students with stories of Richie's finest test performance in 1961 at Old Trafford.

Presentation of the Team Photograph

Richie then presented a copy of the 1946 team photograph to our present-day cricket captain Richard Jeremiah who assured him that it would hang in pride of place in the front foyer of the school.

Talking Spin

At the completion of the assembly the team was given a standing ovation and rousing cheer.

At the luncheon afterwards our current cricket team sought advice and tips from the 1946 team on how to improve their game.

Richie and the team were only to happy to pass on what they themselves had learned.
